The Art of Honesty
Trail notes from the heart path

with Brooking Caldwell Gatewood

This moment asks for a poem

Golden tea seduces me
As it slides inside my cup.

Rain tap-taps the rooftop
Soft with soothing sounds
As cozy toes in cotton socks
Pet the springy, spongy carpet.

It’s Wednesday morning and work is waiting -
But so is everything else.

There’s a sex in the air, in this moment ripe
With nouns to love and love to verb,

Even the furniture is aroused and pulsing,
Low and slow with a secret fire
And thick desire for its breath
To be felt, to be noticed.

A gratitude seduces the heart
With a tickling feathery invitation
To inhabit ourselves in that place, in that way
Where there’s more to this moment
Than tea cups and rain.

And from this place, love asks us to act —
A prayer, a bow, a poem, a kiss,
A tickling of those untouchable toes

So she knows that she hasn’t been missed.
